HomeSmart - Homebuyer Education Incentive Program To encourage first-time homebuyers to ask questions, make decisions carefully, and prepare for successful homeownership, the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency offers the HomeSmart Program. The purchase of a home will likely be the biggest financial decision a household will encounter. The decision should be made with realistic goals, sound advice, careful planning, and an understanding of the responsibilities and costs involved. To learn more about the advantages of homeownership, and the potential drawbacks, first-time homebuyers should educate themselves about the home buying process and the responsibilities of homeownership. HomeSmart provides a $100 grant to first-time homebuyers who complete an approved homebuyer education workshop. The grant may be used for closing costs or other housing expenses. Completion of an approved workshop may also qualify you for other cost reduction or incentive programs. Learn about other programs when you attend a workshop or ask your lender or real estate agent. Contact an approved workshop provider (PDF) for details on their homebuyer education and counseling services. You may also ask your local real estate agent or lender for details.
