Housing Woven into the Fabric of Bush Foundation
Report On March 30, the Bush Foundation released its Prospects & Possibilities for North Dakota report which was the culmination of 36 community conversations held in 28 communities in the state in 2010 as well as a statewide telephone survey to gauge North Dakotans’ concerns for the future. While housing was not chosen as one of the top three concerns in the unscientific look at residents’ perceptions, housing issues and needs are woven throughout the report. From discussions on demographic changes in the state to education to medical care, citizens voiced the important and unique role housing plays in the ongoing development of our communities. An adequate supply of safe, decent and affordable housing fits into each of the concerns cited in the report because it is one of the primary factors that contribute to quality of life. Without appropriate housing choices for residents, communities face serious challenges, especially in areas that are growing. The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) works to ensure that all North Dakotans have the best housing opportunities. “The report offers a reflection of the broad concerns of a wide array of North Dakota residents and shows us that they are well aware of the housing challenges and opportunities we face,” said NDHFA Executive Director Mike Anderson. “NDHFA continually seeks to be a proactive partner with communities in assessing and addressing housing issues and needs. We are proud of the work we have done to help tackle these concerns, but we recognize that there is still more to be done. We feel strongly that North Dakota has many great prospects and possibilities and are excited at the challenge to bring those to fruition.” |
